Our History

mgic0018.jpg

In 1961 a small group of golfers decided to form a golf club.  They made notes on a napkin of what they wanted to do.  Someone suggested they name the club the Napkin Boys.

In September of 1961 they met again at the home of Dr. Fred Richards.  Out of this group, the Mid Island Golf Club was organized to promote, foster and encourage golfing fellowship.

The Mid Island Golf Club incorporated in 1963 and joined the USGA. In 1964, the club became a life member of the NAACP.

In 1965 Mid Island Golf Club, saw the need to encourage youth in the game and a youth program was formed.  Professional teachers were obtained and supplies given to the program.

From the inception of the program scholarships were awarded on a yearly basis to deserving youth.  Some of these youth involved went on to play golf on college teams, such as Yale, Florida State and North Carolina A&T, and one youth from the program became a Club Pro in Tampa, Florida.

It is our hope that besides creating fellowship, we may one day assist another Tiger Woods.
