Dr. Fred Richards Scholarship

Khalil D. Lovick of Brooklyn, New York was a member of the National Honor Society while attending the High School for Medical Professions.  He earned the Excellence Award, a scholarship that will help defray the cost of his education for four years at Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus.  At LIU, he will work towards a Bachelor's Degree in Biology.

Growing up in Brownsville, Khalil felt that as an African-American male, he was faced with many stereotypes that he could have fallen victim to; the idea, if you were a good student, and getting good grades, you were a Nerd.  There were lots of opportunities to involve himself in an assortment of criminal activities if he desired.  Unlike the many young men that fall prey to the negative stereotypes and criminal activities, Khalil was motivated to work that much harder to escape the negativity and insure himself a prosperous and productive future.

After graduating LIU, Khalil will enter medical school to pursue his goal of becoming a Pediatrician, the first in his family. He hopes to be and inspiration to other families and to his community.
