2014 Scholarship Recipients

Philip C. Anderson graduated from Pathway College Preparatory School and is a freshman at Morehouse College.  Philip has dreams of becoming a Physical Therapist.  His passion for karate, and ability to overcome obstacles, has allowed him to triumph thus far.  He has demonstrated true focus and determination amidst peers who were not always encouraging, and sometimes even distracting. Philip is a true example of a young scholar who exhibits a "whatever it takes" attitude.  He has done it all while continuing to give back through volunteer work with his church and in his community.  Philip plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy and hopes to be a leader.

Ashley Lucas is a graduate of Babylon Junior-Senior High School and a freshman at George Mason University.   Ashley plans to study Biology and go on to pursue a doctorate degree.  As a four year Captain of the Varsity Track Team and a distinguished member of several Honor Societies in high school, she is the definition of a Scholar Athlete.  Ashley has also spread her influence in the community with her volunteer work at the Bethel A.M.E. Mission House.  It is her sincere dream to pursue a career in the medical field in which she can work with inner city children to combat disproportionate mortality rates.

Brittany Newell is a sophomore at SUNY Albany and is majoring in English.  She has mastered the virtues of optimism and hard work in order to accomplish her goals.  She has taken on roles that allow her to provide assistance to her peers and strives towards increasing diversity on campus.  She enjoys playing tennis and even perfecting her golf skills with her father.

Brittany plans to start her own tennis club on campus at SUNY Albany this year.  She plans to use her scholarship funds to foster her love of reading and purchase much needed course materials as she pursues her bachelor's degree in English.
